For Doing and Undergoing, I am showing my "scent series" that pairs recognizable smells with improbable settings—like the aroma of freshly baked cookies wafting through a university basement—creating paradoxical experiences that operate like a hologram for your senses. I am employing the same scent marketing technology used by Cinnabon to emit their signature drool-inducing cinnamon bun aroma (yes, it’s fake!) and that Bloomingdale’s uses to waft hints of sunscreen throughout their swimwear department. I will change out the scents each month, playing with seasonality to highlight the unexpected. This scent-only installation is an experiment intended to create a transformative experience that is simultaneously personal and universal.
