Unresolved Rage Game
2024 - currently in development
Immersive Experience
Inspired by tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs), Unresolved Rage Game is a collaborative storytelling adventure, kind of like Dungeons & Dragons, where players roll dice and take on the role of fictional characters… but instead of fighting medieval monsters, they navigate challenges inspired by real-life instances of racist and/or sexist microaggressions.
When your expertise and contributions are dismissed by patronizing coworkers, would you be willing to “White Whisper” in order to Fawn more effectively? Or would you Freeze to preserve your energy, even if it means losing Confidence in yourself? Or would you Validate your Rage and assert yourself, knowing that you risk decreasing your Acceptability with the dominant group? Your choices change how the story unfolds.
It’s a raw, vulnerable, super-cringe (yet surprisingly fun!) role-playing experience designed to help Asian women and femmes explore, process, and unpack our various relationships with rage.
Unresolved Rage Game began as a collaboration with Ran Xia as part of SoHo Rep’s 2022-2023 Writer/Director Lab (v1.0) and was playtested at Worlds in Play 2024 (v2.0) and Worlds in Play 2025 (v3.0). I am currently working on v3.1 with more emphasis on collaboration and solidarity, including Collective Rage mechanics, with the goal of developing it into a playable tool that can be distributed to Asian women and femmes so that they can share it with their own circles. Unresolved Rage Game is part of Anatomy of Rage, a constellation of unexpectedly playful projects that help people be curious about rage—whether theirs is buried deep, boiling over, or just too much to carry alone.
